Hello! I have been a bad blogger this week. All my spare time during the day has been spent outside since it has actually been summer here! So nice for a change. I’ve also been working on my dissertation. I can’t believe I’ve started writing!
Anyways, I had mentioned that I had an announcement regarding the 10K training I had been taking about. About 3 weeks ago I was at the Hillhead subway station waiting to take the subway to my office. (Yes, I know it is one stop, but I had to use up the rest of my subway uses before they changed the system.) While I was standing there waiting impatiently and drinking my iced latte (Starbucks is right next to the station. Seriously.) I saw a sign about running/10k/etc. I couldn’t really make out the fine print but I did make a mental note of the Facebook page.
When I got to my office I pulled up the page and was really interested in what I read.
Glasletes is a “Glasgow based running team, training together to get fit and raise funds for Alzheimer Scotland.”
I get motivation, a team to train with, and professional support. So very cool, as I’ve always been interested in the Team in Training type things that go on, but never was really at the right place/time in my life to do it. As it’s only a 10K, and I’ve already been running, I have every confidence in my ability to do this.
I’ve signed up for the Great Scottish Run 10K, which this training program is, well training you for. The 10K also happens to fall on my 38th birthday weekend. (Which really has nothing to do with it, I figure it is never too soon to drop hints. I really want these (size XS) BTW American friends! 😉 )
So, on October 6th, I will be running and raising funds with Glasletes for Alzheimer Scotland. I’m really excited to get started with the training and the running. The first session is next Wednesday evening. I just hope the weather holds!
I will definitely be writing about the group weekly, as well as my own training runs as well. (Today 3k on the treadmill in 26 minutes.) I’m really excited to take my running to the next level.
Have you ever joined a running (or other sports group)?
