Today was my first day at Glasletes Run Club. I was really, really nervous beforehand- way more than usual. It’s been a while since I’ve gone well out of my comfort zone, so my anxiety flared WAY up. (I was a mess, literally.)
Once I got there I was fine and was able to socialise and meet new people. (This is really hard for me, and I probably babble on and carry on which I don’t mean to. I think it is because I haven’t been in a lot of social situations lately.)
This is my first run club, so I wasn’t sure of the protocols. However, I didn’t have to worry about that for too long. Once the running coach arrived, we grouped together and heard a bit more about what the next 12 weeks will entail, and that the program is customised for the individual to work at his or her own pace. That made me feel reassured since I have been doing some running in preparation for this and for the 5K in 2 weeks.
We did a short run (about 1.3K) and then did some sprints. I haven’t run so fast since I was in elementary school! I apparently have a competitive streak because when the other people sprinting at the same time as me were running I immediately began to run faster to try to catch up!
After sprints we did some squats and lunges. Ouch! My legs were feeling it from all of the walking I did yesterday!
Finally, we got our schedules, programs, and vests for the 10K. I was totally relieved at the end because I was starving and I really, really had to pee.
|Lifting||Long walk||Jog, walk, stretch||Lift or swim||Sprints||Group run or run on own||“long” run day- 30 min|
I am really excited to be running with Glasletes and I can’t wait until next Wednesday!
When’s the last time you went out of your comfort zone?
